PERU – – After their performances for the week of March 25, Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Eddy Tavarez Cabrera (San Cristobel, Dominican Republic)were respectively named as the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Pitcher and Player of the Week.
For Tavarez Cabrera, this was his second time earning the Pitcher of the Week recognition.
The Bobcats dropped a contest with Bellevue in non-conference play before sweeping Mount Mercy (Iowa) in Heart action on Saturday and Sunday.
Cendejas, a 6-2 junior first baseman, had multiple hits in all four games Peru State played this week. In the loss against Bellevue, Cendejas went two for four and scored a run. Against the Mustangs, he went seven for ten with three doubles. Cendejas drove in six runs during the week while also getting on base two additional times with walks. For the week, he had a batting average of .643 and a slugging percentage of .857.
A 6-5 senior pitcher, Tavarez Cabrera threw seven shut-out innings in Peru State 5-0 win over Mount Mercy on Saturday in chilly temperatures. He allowed just one hit and struck out 12 in the contest.
Both Tavarez Cabrera and Cendejas are among the NAIA individual leaders. Tavarez Cabrera is first in opponent batting average (0.131), first in total hits allowed (17), and first in hits allowed per nine (3.86). Cendejas is 14th in the NAIA in batting average at .442.
The Bobcats will be traveling to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to face William Penn in a three-game series this weekend in Heart action.
