PERU – The Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) versus Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Classic will be hosted by the Peru State men’s basketball team this season.
The Classic will be held this Friday and Saturday in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the Peru State Campus.
The first game Friday night will feature the defending NAIA Division I national champions Graceland (Iowa) representing the Heart against Ottawa (Kan.) at 4 p.m. At approximately 6:30 p.m., the Bobcats will take on the St. Mary of Leavenworth, Kan.
On Saturday, following Peru State’s football game, the Bobcats will play Ottawa at approximately 4:30 p.m. with Graceland and St. Mary to follow at approximately 7 p.m.
Graceland has already played one game this year as they defeated Haskell (Kan.) last Saturday when they unfurled their championship banner and presented rings to the 2018 championship team. Last season they finished with a 29-10 record.
The Ottawa Braves finished with a 12-16 mark in 2017-18 and were 11-11 in the KCAC. The St. Mary Spires were 17-13 overall in 2017-18 and finished 14-8 in their conference. Both Ottawa and St. Mary will play one game before heading to Peru for the weekend.
Peru State also participated in the NAIA DI national championships last season and finished the year with a 22-14 mark and were 12-7 in the Heart.
Both the Bobcats and Graceland were among those teams receiving votes in the NAIA DI Coaches’ Top 25 Preseason Poll.
