Peru State to Recognize Swenson Winners Saturday
Alex Kenney

PERU – At its first home football game of the year this coming Saturday, Peru State College and its Foundation will be recognizing a number of individuals.

The Bobcats will be hosting Evangel (Mo.) in its home opener at 1 p.m. in the Oak Bowl.

At halftime of the contest, the annual Swenson Award presentation will recognize the outstanding female and male student-athletes from 2017-18. Earning the recognition this past year were former cross country and softball player Alex Kenney (Milford) and former football player Gunnar Orcutt (Omaha).

Each year since 1925, outstanding student-athletes have been presented with the Bert Swenson award in recognition of their participation in athletics, outstanding character, personality, service, and loyalty to Peru State. The award was created in memory of Bert and Stella Swenson’s 13-month old son, Bert. Jr., who passed away.

Following the Swenson presentation, the College’s Foundation will recognize former student-athletes who are currently in the athletic record books.  Record holders will be recognized on the field for their accomplishments.

In addition, prior to both presentations, participants in the youth cheer camp sponsored by the Peru State cheerleaders, will perform.
