Peru State’s Garlobo Named Google Cloud All-America Second Team

PERU – Gianfranco Garlobo (Carolina, Puerto Rico) became just the fourth Peru State baseball player since 2012-13 to earn Academic All-America® honors as he was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Second Team on Monday.

Garlobo joins former Bobcats Ryan GrabowskiMark McGinnity, and Jordan Silva to receive second team recognition in the past five years. Grabowski was recognized in 2012-13 while both McGinnity and Silva were honored in 2015-16.

Prior to 2012-13, only two other Bobcat baseball players had ever been honored. Steve Medinger from the 1979 team was the first and then the late Mark Williams was honored in 1984. Both Medinger and Williams were second team honorees as well.

A senior accounting and marketing major, Garlobo was an outfielder for the Bobcats. He had a 3.8 grade point average at the time of the nomination. In addition to his statistics for Peru State, the following information was submitted for Garlobo:

Garlobo was the lone baseball player from the Heart of America Athletic Conference to be honored.

Augie Isaacson from Friends University headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team includes student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

Isaacson took the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year accolade. Isaacson, a senior from New Prague, Minnesota, boasts of a 4.00 cumulative GPA majoring in criminal justice.

The Falcons’ regular second baseman, Isaacson collected the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honor. Isaacson was an offensive juggernaut this season for the Falcons, who went 33-20 this season. He led the team in batting (.428), runs (57), hits (92), triples (eight), home runs (seven), RBI (52), slugging percentage (.665), on-base percentage (.494) and stolen bases (35). Isaacson’s batting average, triples and stolen base totals were also tops in the KCAC.

Joining Isaacson on the Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team was the 2017 CoSIDA College Division Baseball Academic All-America® of the Year Glen McClain of Indiana Institute of Technology. McClain, Tanner Watson of Taylor University and Jon Stewart from Cornerstone University each reeled in their second Academic All-American nod.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team produced an average GPA of 3.88 with the first team combining for an average GPA of 3.89. The team includes five student-athletes with 4.0 GPA and two graduate students.
