Spring game, Joy and Mathews tributes among activities happening at Peru State College this weekend

PERU – Blue and White Game. Jerry Joy Signage Unveiling. Baseball/Softball Senior Recognition. Mark Mathews tribute.

What more could a Peru State alumnus want for the coming weekend? Bobcat fans can do it all if they are on the Campus of a Thousand Oaks starting Friday evening.

On Friday, April 20, activities will kick off with the Jerry Joy Home Locker Room signage unveiling in the revamped Field House at 5:30 p.m. The unveiling celebrates the successful conclusion of a special fund drive that raised more than $130,000 in contributions to the football Field House renovation in honor of Joy.

Following the signage unveiling, the annual Blue and White Football Scrimmage will be held. Warm-ups will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the game to begin at approximately 8 p.m. There is no admission.

Saturday’s activities will include double-header softball and baseball games with both starting at 1 p.m. Both teams will be hosting Culver-Stockton (Mo.).

Between games of the softball double header, the seniors will be recognized. Following the senior recognition, a tribute will be held to honor the memory of Coach Mathews. All will take place on the Centennial Complex softball field at approximately 2:45 p.m.

The Bobcat baseball seniors will be honored following the completion of the double header.

If you want to make a whole weekend of it, if Mother Nature permits, the baseball team will also be playing on Sunday at 1 p.m. Between the games, the Bobcat senior women golfers will be recognized.

One event not being held that day is the inaugural football alumni golf tournament. It will now be held June 30 at Kirkman’s Cove west of Humboldt and will be hosted by Jerry Joy.
