MARSHALL, MO – After trailing only by five heading into the final ten minutes, the Peru State women’s basketball team was outscored by 15 by the home-standing Missouri Valley Vikings.
Missouri Valley ended up with an 80-60 win Monday night in Marshall, Mo.
The Vikings were hot from the floor as they made 30 of 55 field goals for 54.5% and also hit 6 of 14 from long range for 42.9%. From the free throw line, the Vikings made 14 of 20 free throws for 70%. Peru State were cooler from the floor as they made 21 of 67 field goal tries for 31.3% while shooting better from behind the arc as they made 10 of 24 for 41.7%. The Bobcats struggled from the free throw line making just 8 of 24 for 33.3%.
Alyssa Marsh-Contreras led all scorers with 21 points. Claire Cudney had a double-double – 10 points, 10 rebounds. Giovanna Silva had a game-high 17 rebounds.
The Vikings improved to 6-9 on the season and 5-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). Peru State falls to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
Peru State hosts Benedictine (Kan.) at 5:30 p.m Thursday. The Ravens are presenting 10-6 on the season and are 5-5 in Heart play. Benedictine is on a five-game winning streak.
