Two people were killed and two more were seriously injured early Friday in a three-vehicle crash in Bellevue.
The crash occurred around 3:10 a.m. on southbound Kennedy Freeway just north of Chandler Road, according to reports to Sarpy County 911 dispatchers.
Southbound Kennedy Freeway was closed at Q Street while authorities investigated the scene. Bellevue police told KMTV that they hoped to have the roadway open before 8 a.m.
Later, around 6:45 a.m., two property-damage crashes involving four vehicles at the southbound Kennedy Freeway off-ramp to Q Street did not help matters.
The crash involved a Hyundai, a Chevrolet pickup truck and a flatbed tow truck, reports indicated.
Two rescue squads initially responded to the crash. Then, a half-hour after the crash was reported, a third rescue squad was dispatched to the location.
The third squad may have been dispatched because authorities were searching for a possible fifth person involved in the crash.
A medical helicopter that was placed on stand-by was canceled, possibly due to temperatures in the lower teens Friday morning and a low flight ceiling, dispatchers said.
The injured were taken to Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition, according to rescue squad personnel at the crash scene.
