A 21-year-old Hebron, Nebraska, man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

Michael Lewis was taken into custody early Saturday and later booked into the Thayer County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon. Lewis is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon, said Cody Thomas, a spokesman for the Nebraska State Patrol.

Remington Elting, 28, of Davenport, Nebraska, was shot about 3:20 a.m. in Hebron. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died, Thomas said. Elting’s brother, Reuben Elting, 33, also of Davenport, was flown to Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, where he remained in critical condition Monday.

A series of events leading to the shooting began with a disturbance involving several people about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at a residence in Davenport, Thomas said. That incident is alleged to have prompted the shooting at a residence in Hebron.

Hebron is 50 miles south of York and about 12 miles north of the Nebraska-Kansas border.
