Creek through Lincoln removed from U.S. impaired waters list

LINCOLN — A creek that runs through the heart of Lincoln has been removed from the nation’s list of impaired waters.

Mayor Chris Beutler credited several agencies Thursday as he announced the delisting of Antelope Creek.

The creek was added to the Clean Water Act list of impaired waters in 2004. Levels of E. coli bacteria were more than 25 times the water quality standard.

Fifteen stormwater quality improvement projects, two major flood control projects and the installation of rain gardens and permeable pavers were cited as contributing to the creek’s restoration.

There are about 11 miles of bike paths along the creek.
