A man was shot and killed about 6 p.m. Saturday in northwest Douglas County in an apparent hunting accident, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting remained under investigation Saturday night. Preliminary findings indicated that the man was fatally wounded while deer hunting.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, apparently was accidentally shot by his adult son when they were climbing out of a tree stand in a field near 14606 N. 264th St., north of Valley, said Sgt. Greg Kelly of the Sheriff’s Office.
Rescue workers from Valley and Waterloo were called to the address at 6:04 p.m. The man was declared dead at the scene.
