Southern Public Schools responding to threat of violence

WYMORE, NE – An unidentified student at Southern High School in Wymore made a threatening statement of violence by writing on a bathroom wall.

This writing was discovered by the school on Wednesday. School district officials have worked closely with Gage County law enforcement in investigating the issue.

Southern Public Schools superintendent Chris Perososki says the school is taking every reasonable step to ensure students’ safety at school.

“Gage County law enforcement and school administration have been present and around,” Perososki said. “Southern is a positive and safe learning environment both for students and staff.”

Law enforcement has been present at the school both Wednesday and Thursday, and may stick around Friday if necessary.

Students were allowed an excused absence from school on Thursday if they did not feel comfortable attending.

Any parents who have questions about the safety of their students should feel free to contact Southern Public School administration. The investigation into this issue is ongoing.
