Woman is killed, teenage daughter critically injured in Lincoln crash

A woman died and her teenage daughter was critically injured early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash in north Lincoln.

Julie A. Schmieding, 38, of Lincoln, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Tylea Schmieding, 15, was taken to Bryan Medical Center, police said.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. when a 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Julie Schmieding crashed into a tree near the intersection of North First Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. An off-duty Lancaster Sheriff’s Office deputy reported the crash.

Investigators determined that the Mitsubishi was southbound on North First Street when it veered right, left the road and struck a tree before coming to a rest in a ditch. Police said it’s unclear whether mother and daughter were wearing seat belts.
