12-year-old girl who left home early Wednesday after argument is found huddled near creek

A 12-year-old girl who left her house early Wednesday after an argument with her sister was tracked by Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies and found huddled near a creek.

The girl left her home on the southeast edge of Lincoln around 6 a.m., Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner said. Relatives looked for the girl, who was wearing a robe and boots, but they couldn’t find her. Seven sheriff’s deputies responded when her family contacted authorities, Wagner said.

Two deputies spotted footprints in the snow and followed them for about half a mile to the girl, the sheriff said. She was taken to a local hospital as a precaution for hypothermia.

Lincoln and Bennet fire crews responded to the scene, which is southeast of 98th Street and Old Cheney Road.
