DC Dems Launch First Anti-Bacon Air Attack

Omaha, NE.—If you were wondering when the real fight over Omaha’s Congressional seat would take off—wonder no more.

DC Democrats have launched the first attack ads of 2018 against Republican incumbent Don Bacon.

Bacon, a retired Air Force General, is on the receiving end of a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee three week media blitz—TV, radio and internet ads— that puts health care front and center.

The TV and digital ads don’t mention Bacon by name—going after Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and his fellow House Republicans—but the radio ads do, specifically accusing Bacon of voting to “raise your out-of-pocket costs and premiums” gutting Medicaid and ending coverage for several preexisting conditions.

Jack Pandol, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, tells News Channel Nebraska, “National Democrats must be experiencing short term memory loss, since just this year Obamacare premiums spiked 51% in Nebraska.”

The DCCC tells News Channel Nebraska that “this is a six-figure ad campaign” marked by a 1-minute radio commercial, a 30 second cable TV spot and a 15 second internet ad (see below).

In May Bacon doubled down on his support for a GOP bill ending Obamacare. “I’ve changed my vote, from ‘yes’ to ‘hell, yes,’ ” Bacon said.

The DCCC  calls that statement “shameful.”

“This law isn’t working and Democrats have no plan to fix it; they should be thankful Don Bacon is working to clean up their mess,” says Pandol.

It’s expected that Bacon will run against either former Congressman Brad Ashford or Kara Eastman who are sparring for the Democratic nomination in next spring’s primary,

Several national ratings find the 2018 Omaha Congressional race a “toss-up.”
