Eastern Iowa semi crash leaves one dead

Two Nebraska truck drivers were involved in a fatal crash Friday in eastern Iowa.

Gary Collins of Pleasantville, Iowa, died in the crash that took place on Interstate 80 about 2:20 p.m. near West Branch.

Collins, 69, was driving a 2012 semitrailer truck west and struck another semi, a 2003 Kenworth driven by Kevin Broberg, 46, of Norfolk, in the rear passenger corner, pushing it into a 2011 Freightliner semi driven by Gary Schiemann, 51, of Omaha, according to the Iowa State Patrol report on the incident.

Broberg and Schiemann had stopped due to another crash ahead of them.

Collins is the only one listed as injured on the report, which says he was not wearing his seat belt.

Highway conditions and weather were not factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation.
