Elkhorn-area man shot during robbery, carjacking outside Horseshoe Casino Saturday morning

An Elkhorn-area man was shot in the Horseshoe Casino parking lot about 4:40 a.m. Saturday in a robbery and carjacking.

The man, 53, wasn’t named Saturday morning by the Council Bluffs Police Department, but his injuries were described as non-life threatening. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center.

The suspect fled in the victim’s gray 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew pickup.

Council Bluffs police reported that they were sent to the casino at 2701 23rd Ave. at 4:43 a.m. after a report of a man lying injured in the parking lot. Police determined the man had been shot as he attempted to run from his vehicle.

The vehicle then was recovered — burned — by the Omaha Police Department, in the 2000 block of South 45th Street in Omaha.

Council Bluffs police say there is an active investigation under way by them and the Omaha Fire Department.
