A Lincoln woman charged with first-degree sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to eight to 12 years in prison in Cass County District Court.
Janelle L. Carlson, 40, entered a guilty plea on Monday in exchange for an amended charge of attempted sex with a minor. Under Nebraska sentencing guidelines, Carlson must serve at least four years before becoming eligible for parole. She also must register as a sex offender.
According to an affidavit, Carlson told an investigator that she had sex with the boy at his insistence after the two went into the backyard of a house and “smoked a whole blunt.”
In a separate interview, the boy told a sheriff’s deputy that after smoking the joint, Carlson began groping him after they went to his bedroom. He said Carlson performed oral sex on him and the two also had intercourse.
