Two people died Wednesday in a collision that involved four vehicles on Nebraska Highway 15 just north of Schuyler, Nebraska.
Karrie A. Healy, 48, a preschool teacher for the Schuyler Community Schools, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl. Jason A. Bruns, 44, of Omaha, was flown to a Lincoln hospital, where he died.
Investigators from the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office determined that Bruns was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe pickup truck north on Highway 15 about 7:30 a.m. when the vehicle crossed the center line. The pickup collided head-on with a southbound 2011 Buick Enclave driven by Healy.
Both vehicles were stopped in the middle of the highway when they were struck by a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Keldon K. Phillips, 22, of Schuyler, that was northbound. Phillips’ pickup truck came to rest in the east ditch.
A 2006 International semitrailer truck driven by Adam J. Werners, 36, of Howells, was southbound when it collided with the Tahoe and Buick. The Buick was pushed to the west side of Highway 15, the Tahoe came to rest in the northbound lane and the semi stopped in a field.
Phillips and Werners were not hospitalized.
The Nebraska State Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
