Blanket Of Snow Precedes Blizzard Conditions In River Country

NEBRASKA CITY – A heavy blanket of snow greeted the dawn at Nebraska City this morning and all roads in the city are snow covered.

There was light traffic in the early morning, but many churches have canceled services and others are scheduling travel time for later in the day.

The Omaha Public Power District has reported 22 power outages in Otoe County by 8 a.m. It was the only county with more than three outages at that time.

The Nebraska City Airport reported air temperatures dropping just below freezing at 2:30 a.m. and temperatures have held in the range of 29 degrees. There are wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour, but the wind is described as breezy at this hour.

Up to a foot of snow is forecast in Atchison County, Mo., and Falls City. Four to eight inches at Nebraska City.
