The Runzas are returning to Werner Park. And not at the concession stand.

The Omaha Storm Chasers will be the Omaha Runzas and wear special uniforms June 8 to celebrate one of Nebraska’s culinary traditions. The team also played as the Runzas for one game last season, when it hosted the Albuquerque Green Chile Cheeseburgers.

This year’s Runza uniforms are slightly different.

The hat is green and white with a yellow bill and Runza on the front. The jersey is predominantly green with white and yellow stripes on the side. Omaha is written across the front in yellow font with a giant Runza taking up most of the shirt.

There also will be a special giveaway during the game. More details will be unveiled later.

This is the second food-inspired uniform the Chasers have unveiled for the coming season.

For five games, they’ll play as the Omaha Sizzle — an homage to beef.

The Chasers will also wear Star Wars-themed uniforms for their May 3 and 4 games.

Omaha returns to the diamond with an exhibition game at Werner Park on March 25 against the Kansas City Royals.

The first regular-season game is April 4 at Memphis and the home opener is April 9 against Oklahoma City.
